BBAA NEWSLETTER.....June 15, 2008 Editor: Carmen Day, Quaint on Brooklyn B&B Email Carmen info for the Newsletter Well, here it is June 15, 2008. Happy Father's Day to all the dear old Dads (yes, having children does make you old). My Dad passed away several years ago and I still think about him. We didn't actually have a close relationship until I was almost 40 myself. A WWII veteran, I think he came back with a lot of issues. I do know he didn't want to talk about it a lot. Anyhow, now that I am older and wiser, I think I understand him a little better. I am glad we had some time to get reacquainted. If I don't start getting some news from you guys, you will end up knowing my life story, and that can never happen. Too many mice in the cupboard. I did have an interesting event happen at work just this past week. A co-worker asked me where I went to school and to make a long story short, we both graduated from the same high school, two years apart, and lived on the same street, I was two blocks further down the road. Yup, Baker High School, Columbus, Georgia, class of 1966. He ended up making a copy of my graduation picture from the album and taping it to the board, so everyone could see my "beehive" hairdo. Just goes to show, if you don't be good, it will eventually come around and bite you in the rear. Which brings to mind a saying by Helen Keller (thought I was going to forget the quote didn't you)...."Character can not be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strenghtened....vision cleared.....ambition inspired.....and success achieved." The BBAA Board met on April 14 at the Camellia House in Luverne. Bonnie took the group photo. Kathy Dowdy graciously hosted our meeting and then served a delicious lunch. (See photos) Members will receive a copy of the approved Board meeting minutes shortly. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please let the Board know.I heard back from the waffle lady, Rebecca Whisnant from "Hospitality and Tea". Thank you for getting back to me and also for the recipe that I am going to share at this time. Personally,I like Cheese Grits and I think you will like this recipe, plus it is easy to prepare.Cheese Grits by Martha Garvie • 3 c boiling water •1 cup Quick grits •Cook 7 min. there will be alittle water left)•Place in large bowl and add •6-8 oz velveeta cheese 2 oz green chillies • 7 oz petite diced tomatoes •whip 2 eggs and add to the mix • place in medium casserole dish and bake @ 350 F for 1 hour. Casserole is finished baking when top is lightly browned. **can also add drained and diced mushrooms. We cannot let June pass without mentioning a graduate or two. Mary Hightower sent in a photo of Mark, their youngest son's graduation from the University of Alabama. His degree is banking and financial services, and he has already started his new job at State Bank and Trust in Winfield, Al. I think the Hightowers are celebrating this summer, especially after no more college tuitions to pay. Their oldest son, David on the right of Mary in the photo is an athletic trainer in Spring Hill, TN, also a graduate of the U of A. Oh, no, they can't fall into financial bliss as yet....there is a wedding in the near future. I am astonished to report a murder at the Mistletoe Bough Bed and Breakfast. Just kidding. It was a Murder Mystery Party. Sounds like they had a wonderful time. I want more details. Apparently each "murder" includes four couples and takes a little bit of planning before hand, but it is well worth the effort. Thank you for sharing JoAnn. Send some more facts, I am really interested.Earl reported that the BBAA website had 34,317 hits from June 07 thru June 08. If anyone would like to know their individual hits during that time span, e-mail Earl at info@treasureislandbedandbreakfast.com. Also, a plus, if you check BBAA on Google you will see that it comes up #1 on the first page. Can't improve much on that. I know I have had one of the busiest months ever. I am thrilled. Also, Jessica Carr from Plantation House e-mailed to let me share that one of her guests found her through the ad in Southern Lady! Things are really looking goood. Don't forget to make you reservations at Lake Guntersville Lodge. There is a lot of planning already in the works: speakers, presenters, vendors. As soon as I know more I will pass it on.I hope everyone found the updated Pineapple Doorknocker Logo to use on your personal website. Please include it as a link to the BBAA website as that will increase your link popularity on Google. If you have any questions, please contact Earl Hardy, the BBAA website advisor at info@treasureislandbedandbreakfast.com or call.Well, guys, I have an early morning wake-up call 0440 to be exact and a fairly long drive to Crestview, so I will tell you goodnight and goodbye for another month.
